Consider the trade-off consciously: an urban setting makes independent evenings easier to plan, while a remote bay gives a very different sense of separation. Neither is automatically the more luxurious choice.
Before you book
Compare the exact room outlook rather than assuming every category has the same view. Ask about luggage access, any arrival assistance and current spa inclusions. Use one day for a Pakleni crossing, then leave an evening for Hvar without a scheduled return boat.

Start with the exact room or residence, its position, outdoor space and what is included. Then compare arrival arrangements, meal options, pool or spa access and cancellation terms. Ask directly about accessibility, children and any age restrictions that matter to your party. A waterfront town hotel, an island residence and a resort near Stari Grad answer different needs; none is automatically a substitute for another.
Make the arrival part of the plan
Before paying, agree the departure point, the exact destination and the return arrangement. Ask whether luggage, waiting time and a change of plan are included. A named bay is more useful than “Pakleni” when arranging transport. For a restaurant visit, let the venue confirm the appropriate landing. Leave time between the island return and any onward ferry; a tightly timed connection is not worth building a relaxed day around.

Begin with geography. Palace Elisabeth places you by Hvar’s main square; Riva Marina and Adriana offer a harbour context. Moeesy has a garden-and-promenade setting and currently welcomes guests aged fourteen and over. These are different bases for town life, not interchangeable room bookings.
